Our Mission

The mission of the Stroke Help Association is to help those who are consumers of doctors' services for the treatment of stroke.

The Stroke Help Association is working to scan the scientific literature to find the most promising research towards a cure. We are working to raise money to help fund the research which promises best to find a cure, or if not a cure, at least a way to prevent the death of brain cells so that the disability is reduced as much as possible.

The Stroke Help Association is working to improve the delivery of medical care to stroke victims. The victim and the family need help in recognizing what is happening, in telling the doctor what is wrong, in helping the doctor to arrive at a correct diagnosis, in getting treatment promptly, in understanding what the best known medical treatment is, in requesting it, and cooperating with it. This should help create uniformity of treatment across the nation.

The Stroke Help Association is working to develop audio visual material for the patient and the family in which doctors skilled in the field of stroke explain the risk factors, the symptoms, the problems in diagnosis, the emergency measures necessary to contain the stroke, the recommended treatment, the course of the disease, the outcomes, the types of appropriate rehabilitation, and the conduct of follow up medicine. This information is not only of practical help in reducing the anxiety, fear, and confusion experienced by the victim and the family, but also in promoting the best possible medical result. Some part of the material should be a message of hope and a counsel of strength.

The Stroke Help Association is working to create a protocol for the training of volunteers who are survivors of stroke in order that they may come to the hospital and effectively provide uplift and comfort to the victim and to the family. We are working to set up a national system to provide volunteers in all hospitals.

The Stroke Help Association is working to set up a system for the formation of active Stroke Help Association groups in each home town of each stroke victim to make the community aware of the nature of stroke, to promote health practices that reduce the risk of stroke, and to arrange for volunteers to visit the victims and their families to assist them to return to a full life.
