As part of our program of service to the victims of stroke and their families, we provide links to other websites that offer something of value. Just click on the blue web addresses.
 

The Home Care Companion Company (a division of Healing Arts Communications/Health Care Training Systems) makes and offers for sale videos, dvds and books showing how to give care to stroke victims and other disabled persons. These products are very informative. These four titles are especially recommended:

  • Caregiver Wellness - A film (video or dvd) to help caregivers can take care of themselves so that they have a life. It is important for the caregiver to reduce the stress caused by care giving, and not become depressed.
  • Personal Care - A film (video or dvd) explaining how to provide basic hygienic care to those who are disabled. It shows good ways to do it.
  • Quick Tips for Caregivers - A book that presents detailed techniques of how to give care to those who are bedridden.
  • How to Communicate with Someone Who Has Aphasia - A film (video or dvd) concerning aphasia, a word that means difficulty in talking. Sometimes stroke victims have aphasia. This film shows compassionate ways to give care.

 
Comfort Keepers is a company that franchises businesses across the country that want to be in the business of rendering care to the disabled. If you need respite, time off, or some special or steady help with the care of your loved one, the Comfort Keepers branches will supply that service for a fee. The company web site has a list of the hundreds of businesses that they franchise across the country. I hope you have a branch in your neighborhood. The one I know near me is caring and reliable.
 
Sammons Preston Rolyan (800-323-5547) is a mail order company that specializes in all types of appliances, equipment and aids for the handicapped, be it physical or mental disability. They carry thousands of items. If you buy on the web, you get the professional discount. They have various catalogs. Some cost money to buy, others don’t. Some catalogs have more items than the internet, some less. Some catalogs have prices, others don’t. Explore these issues before you order a catalog.
