Message from the President

Stroke is one of the most horrible of all diseases. In about 80% of the cases the blood in some remote part of the body turns itself into a large clot that travels to the head through the arteries, blocks the flow of blood, and thus kills a smaller or larger number of brain cells. I call it the "Blood Clot Disease." Without warning healthy persons suddenly become long term chronic disabled persons. The survivors can show a small disability, or be partially paralyzed, or be totally paralyzed. In addition, damage to the brain is known to cause organic based depression. The emotions of all survivors are damaged.

Stroke is the number 3 killer in this nation. There are stroke survivors but all have some degree of loss of function. There is a lot of opinion that the stress of taking care of an invalid or disabled person takes 10 years off the life of the caretaker. So there is a triple deadliness in this disease. It kills, it cripples the life of the victim that survives, and it shortens the life of the caretaker.

What Stroke Help Association is doing is trying to ameliorate the disease of stroke, improve the quality of the medical care delivered to stroke victims, and give information and support to the families and caretakers of victims.

Stroke can be defeated if we all work together. I ask you to please make a contribution of money to this association. Send us a check in an amount you can afford with your name, address and email. When you run an anniversary party or a celebration or some other event please ask your guests to send a donation to us instead of bringing a present or buying flowers. Donations to us are tax deductible.

Thank you from me and all stroke victims and their families who need your help. This means that a lot of people thank you.

Robert H. Schor, President
